Function Scans are MRIs that are designed to detect signs of 500+ health conditions, including cancers. They’re powered by FDA-cleared AI technology that gives you a more complete view of your body.
Everyone who wants to take a proactive approach to their health.**
Early signs of cancer, fatty liver, aneurysms, and brain health decline often appear in places that lab tests alone may not be able to detect. Imaging can help.
Up until now, this type of MRI was prohibitively expensive to the vast majority of people. Function Scans make getting an advanced scan more accessible, affordable, and convenient. These start with the MRI Scan, which takes just 22 minutes at a cost of $499.
**Certain individuals should not receive a Function Scan, namely those who are: under 18; currently pregnant; living with certain metals in their body (e.g. pacemaker, prosthetic implant); subject to a recent cancer diagnosis; and/or undergoing active cancer treatment.
A Function Scan is not included with Function membership. Function members have access to purchase scans, but this cost is in addition to the cost of annual membership.
There are currently four types of Function Scans available.
The MRI Scan includes the head, neck, abdomen, and pelvis—all in approximately 22 minutes, for $499. This includes screening for potential brain masses, abnormal fluid collections, and signs of early aging, as well as potential issues in the thyroid, liver, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, adrenal glands, kidneys, bladder, and prostate or uterus and ovaries.
Beyond the MRI Scan, Function members also have access to:

The MRI Scan takes approximately 22 minutes and is available to Function members for $499. This scan is a fit for those looking for the most affordable, time-efficient way to get an advanced view of their body.
The MRI Scan with Spine takes approximately 47 minutes and includes everything in the MRI Scan, as well as a scan of the spine. This scan is designed to help detect signs of herniated discs, spinal cord compression, and vertebral fractures; it’s a logical choice for people experiencing an ongoing problem like lower back pain, sciatica, or disc degeneration.
The MRI Scan with Skeletal & Neurological Assessment includes everything in the MRI Scan with Spine, plus additional screening for neurodegeneration, MS, and dementia. Also includes advanced assessments for brain age, body composition, and hip/knee joint health. For those who want access to cutting-edge imaging (and don’t mind scheduling two separate 60-minute sessions), this option makes sense.
The Heart & Lungs CT Scan takes 3 minutes and is available as an add-on to any scan. This low-dose CT screens for potential issues in the lungs and heart, which may be especially valuable for people with a history of smoking or thoracic concerns.
Heart imaging requires a dedicated cardiac MRI, with special sequences, slices, and a longer scan time.
Breasts are not covered in Function Scans because breast imaging with MRI requires the use of specialized breast coils and IV contrast, neither of which are used. However, breast cancer screening is available to Function members through the Galleri multi-cancer detection test, powered by Grail.
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and an MRI machine is a giant magnet that uses radio waves to take pictures of your organs and other body structures.
Getting an MRI is safe and pain-free. And while it does involve being in a noisy, tunnel-like structure, Ezra’s advanced technology reduces the amount of time it takes to get comprehensive imaging.
Unlike other types of scans, MRI produces no ionizing radiation. This means that the MRI Scan, MRI Scan with Spine, and MRI Scan with Skeletal & Neurological Assessment will not expose you to any harmful radiation.
A low-dose CT scan, or LDCT, included with the Heart & Lungs CT Scan, does involve ionizing radiation. Ezra’s LDCT protocol uses state-of-the-art machines and follows the American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines to ensure that the dose is as low as reasonably achievable. This means that their LDCT delivers a radiation dose significantly lower than that of a conventional diagnostic chest CT.
Ezra is a company that Function recently acquired. They created the FDA-cleared AI technology used in Function Scans.
Function acquired Ezra to expand access to advanced imaging, and to empower our members with a more complete picture of their health.
Ezra currently partners with imaging facilities across the U.S.
Note that while all of these locations conduct at least one version of the Function Scan, not all of them currently offer all four versions. When you schedule your scan, you’ll be able to see which are available at the locations nearest to you—and we plan to scale availability rapidly in the near future.
These tests can be complementary to one another, for a more comprehensive level of screening.
Grail’s multi-cancer early detection test takes a molecular approach to finding genetic material in the bloodstream that originated from a malignant tumor. A Function Scan takes an imaging approach to detection, with the goal of “seeing” tumors in the body.
If you’re a Function member, log into your Function account to access a direct link to scheduling on Ezra’s site.
We wanted to make advanced imaging available to all Function members as soon as possible.
We recently acquired Ezra, the company that created the FDA-cleared AI technology that helps improve the experience of advanced imaging. We’re actively working to integrate the purchase and scheduling processes into our own site, but are using Ezra’s existing site to make scans accessible in the meantime.
Results are typically available within 7-10 business days.
You’ll receive your results as a report in your Ezra account and will be notified by email when they’re available.
In the future, we plan to incorporate these results into your Function account for a more complete view of your health, all in one place.
Yes, a medical professional will review your results.
You can cancel your scan through your Ezra account or by sending an email to hello@ezra.com for a full refund.
Cancellations made within 48 hours of your appointment are not eligible for a refund; However, if you need to cancel within that 48-hour window, you can reschedule for a fee of 25% of the full package price (excluding promo codes) by emailing hello@ezra.com.
