“My whole life fell down”

Meagan's son Liam was only 4 years old when he came home from his second day of pre-K and said something that stopped her cold.

"Mom, I don't feel human anymore."

His eyes had dark circles. Movement was hard. Something was terribly wrong.

For Meagan, this moment shattered everything she thought she knew about health.  After all, she was a full-time professional in the environmental field, an avid mountain biker, and someone who'd always prioritized organic living.

"My whole life kind of fell down around me. We didn't know what was going on."

She searched their home from top to bottom looking for answers. Two weeks later, the school sent a notice saying the building tested positive for toxic mold.

Meagan pulled Liam out immediately and dove into research that ultimately led her to functional medicine.

But in the chaos of becoming her son's health advocate, Meagan’s own persistent symptoms remained unresolved.

The mysterious symptoms

Since pregnancy, Meagan’s immune system had been attacking the pigmentation around her moles. It’s a skin condition called halo nevus.

Then vitiligo appeared with white patches spreading across her skin.

Her anxiety, which she'd always managed, became overwhelming. The exhaustion was crushing.

But every doctor told her it was most likely her hormones and not to worry.

No one ever suggested looking deeper.

A Mother's Day gift

Around Mother's Day 2025, Meagan kept seeing Function's social media posts about mothers taking care of themselves.

With a 40th birthday around the corner, she decided it was time.

She joined Function with a friend. They texted each other before their blood draws to celebrate.

We were just both so proud of ourselves for taking initiative to give the same love and care that we always give to our children, and to actually show that to ourselves.

The markers standard checkups usually miss

When Meagan's results came back, there were new discoveries.

In a standard blood panel a year earlier, her iron levels were labeled "fine."

But with the tests through Function, she found she had low Ferritin, a protein that stores iron inside of cells. Her Ferritin level was 5 ng/mL, while the reference range for women starts at 16 ng/mL.

Her Omega-3 levels were also below range, despite already taking supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids can help with inflammation in the body.

For the first time, she was seeing a more complete picture.

A roadmap to create health

But Function didn't just give Meagan data, it gave her deeper insights.

She increased her Omega-3s and started iron supplementation.

She also used Function’s Private AI Chat to build a daily protocol that times her supplements around food and exercise.

But that was only part of it.

Meagan added infrared sauna sessions several times a week.

She started a "bounce class" for lymphatic drainage.

And for gut health, she committed to eating fermented foods with every meal.

"My family thinks I'm crazy, but I've got the sauerkraut with my eggs in the morning."

The physical proof

Within months, Meagan started seeing changes.

Her vitiligo even started improving.

Function didn't pinpoint one cause, but she found that taking care of her whole system led to visible improvements.

Her anxiety decreased. Her energy returned. Her mental clarity improved.

I've seen major changes in my physical and mental health, which has been life-changing.

“No one knows better than I do”

At 40, Meagan now has a new goal: to reach 50 in the healthiest state of her life.

She's even taken a functional medicine course at night to better understand her body.

"I feel like no one in this world knows my health profile better than I do. No one can advocate for me or for my family the way that I can.”

She calls herself a "holistic, realistic mother" now. Someone who understands that answers exist when you slow down to ask the right questions and test the right markers.

Knowing I'm doing things to empower my body to be a better version of itself daily has been something that I really can't put a price on.
