Heart CT Scan

This low-dose CT scan measures calcium buildup in the arteries of the heart (coronary arteries), with a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score to assess long-term cardiovascular risk. The images are timed with the heartbeat to avoid blurriness from the heart’s normal movement and rhythm.

Protect your heart. Starting now.

Heart disease often develops without symptoms. The right data, like a Heart CT Scan, can help you see risk earlier and act before it progresses.
No. 1

leading cause of death in the US is heart disease.

Most risk builds silently over time before you even feel it.
Up to 75%

of premature heart disease is preventable.

When you can see what’s changing, you take action sooner.
Up to 20

extra years of living without heart disease.

Lifestyle changes and knowing where to focus can make a big difference.

You may be a good fit if you:

Are aged 35-85

Have no active symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath

Want a clearer picture of your heart health

Have high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or a family history of heart disease

This scan may not be for you:

If you’re pregnant

Have known heart disease, including stents, pacemakers, or bypass surgery

Prior positive CAC score

Have active heart-related symptoms, like chest pain or shortness of breath

“You guys saved my life. I ended up having double bypass surgery after your calcium score allowed me to force my cardiologist to order an angiogram.”

“My husband and I both work at Police Departments and are recommending you to everyone. Your scan probably saved him from a heart attack.”

Frequently asked questions

Is the heart CT right for me?

A CAC scan is often recommended for asymptomatic adults who are at intermediate or uncertain cardiovascular risk and for whom the results would help guide prevention decisions. It is generally not used to evaluate symptoms or to assess known coronary artery disease. We offer this test for adults 35-85 years old. We do not offer the test for those with coronary stents, cardiac pacemakers, prior bypass surgery, or known coronary artery disease (CAD).

What is a gated coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan?

A “gated” CAC scan is a specialized CT scan that uses electrocardiogram (ECG) synchronization to capture images of the heart at precise times. By timing images with your heartbeat, it minimizes motion and provides a measurement of coronary artery calcium. This scan is performed without contrast and focuses specifically on the coronary arteries.

How should I prepare for my Heart CT scan?

We recommend restricting caffeine/coffee to keep heart rate from interfering with results. We also recommend you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with no metal — a t-shirt and sweatpants or athletic shorts are preferred. Avoid dresses, underwire bras (bras without underwire or any metal are acceptable), belts, and clothing with zippers or snaps. You’ll also be asked to remove any jewelry, piercings, or hair accessories before your scan.

Why do I need a different site to book scans?

We recently acquired Ezra, the team behind our FDA-cleared imaging AI. We’re actively working to bring everything into Function, so we’re using Ezra’s site to make scans available now—no delays.

When will I get results?

Results are ready in 7–10 business days and delivered to your Ezra account. You'll get an email as soon as they're available. Soon, you’ll also be able to view them in your Function account so all results are in one place.

What will my Heart CT results tell me?

You will receive a CAC score. A score of 0 means no calcium was detected, which is a strong sign of heart health. A higher score indicates more buildup and may point to elevated cardiovascular risk. Your results come with context and recommended next steps.
