Discovery: Confirmed cancer-free status after breast cancer diagnosis and treatment
Rebecca had already done everything right.
At 34, she spent an entire “week of health” knocking out her annual doctor’s appointments.
Dentist, dermatologist, gynecologist, primary care.
Two of those visits included lab testing and breast exams. Two different doctors. Two separate offices. Both told her the same thing.
"You're great. See you next year."
She believed them.
I had nothing to make me think that anything was going on in my body.
The diagnosis
A few days later, her friend noticed something on her chest and encouraged her to get checked again.
Rebecca pushed back at first. She had just seen 2 doctors. Still, she went back to her gynecologist.
Her doctor wasn't concerned, but referred her for a mammogram. Rebecca went into the appointment feeling more inconvenienced than worried.
I walked in feeling completely fine, kind of annoyed that it was in the middle of the day. And I walked out with a cancer diagnosis.
“How do we really know?”
Over the next 6 months, Rebecca went through chemotherapy, surgery, and treatment.
Her doctors said they had rarely seen someone respond so well physically. Even during treatment, she never felt sick.
Eventually, she was told she was “clear.” And technically, everything after that confirmed it. The scans were normal. The lab results looked good. Follow-up appointments kept coming back clean.
But Rebecca couldn't stop thinking about the way her cancer was discovered. Because before the mammogram, everything had looked normal then, too.
"How do we really know? The doctors said I was fine. And I wasn't."
It wasn't fear exactly. It was uncertainty.
For nearly 2 years, the question stayed with her.
The answer she was waiting for
When Function launched, Rebecca became an early member.
Through Function, she gained access to the Galleri® Multi-Cancer Test that screens for cancer signals across 50+ types of cancer.
For the first time since her diagnosis, Rebecca felt like she had something more concrete than reassurance.
Not vague optimism.
Not "everything looks okay."
A result that said: No breast cancer. And “no” to dozens of other cancer types, too.
Function has completely changed my life. I'm now able to see the word 'negative' next to the words breast cancer.
That was the answer she had been waiting for.
Knowing early changes everything
Rebecca thinks often about how easily it could have been missed.
"If it could happen to me, it could happen to you."
Now, she tests once a year.
If something changes, I'll know early. If nothing changes, I'll see that, too.
